R Mitchelli grew up in a musical household. Music played on the turntable all day in his South Bronx apartment. His dad was a jazz enthusiast and his mom would let Jon Lucien’s Lady Love play all day. And when hip-hop was born in 1979, he grew up in the middle of it. R Mitchelli started deejaying when he was 14. At the age of 17, his uncle gave him an opportunity to cut a record and put it out. He recorded the song MVP (Most Valuable Poet) with his best friend Steve SdotSamuel* under the group name Just the Two of Us. And with that, he fell in love with music. The exposure to a music studio sealed his passion and he realized that it was the place he wanted to be for the rest of his life. He started making beats and deejaying parties while in college. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, he acquired an internship at Mercury Records and Unique Recording Studios in NYC. Later, he worked for C & C Music Factory, at Polygram Records, and Island DefJam Music Group. He founded Mitchelli Music after the death of his son, Lewie. Lew inspired him to follow his dream. Today, R Mitchelli uses his musical foundation that his parents instilled, mixed with his hip-hop roots and his admiration for multi-talented and creative icons like the artist Prince to nerd-out on everything music. He is a music producer, recording and mix engineer, a background vocalist and creative. “Music is the language I use to communicate to the world.”
